The death of JFK was quite surprising to many. It happened on November 22, 1936, in Dallas, Texas. His motorcade was traveling down Dealey Plaza with him and his wife riding in a topless convertible. At about 12:30 three shots were fired, the president was hit once in the neck and once in the head and hitting john Connally once in the back. The car immediately sped towards the Parkland Memorial Hospital. Gov. Connally recovered from the bullet in his back. The president didn’t make it.
Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested an hour and twenty minutes after the shooting for killing a Dallas officer who saw him walking down a sidewalk in Oak Cliff. He was later captured trying to sneak into a movie theater a few blocks away. He tried to shoot the arresting officer but was beat down. He then denied shooting anyone and claimed that he was being arrested because he had lived in the Soviet Union. He was never tried because two days later he was shot by Jack Ruby.
A Italian rifle was found on the sixth floor of the Texas Book Depository soon after the assassination. the gun was later identified ballistics as the assassination weapon and pictures of Oswald were found of him holding the rifle in his yard.
Just after the shooting the death of the president was announced, this confused many people and also frightened many of the people partially because we were in the middle of the cold war. At first many speculated it as a larger attack on the United States and it was unclear weather or not the vise president Johnson was safe.
In the picture you see JFK junior saluting his fathers casket standing next to his mother who is in black. Also Kennedy’s brother Robert is standing in the picture. What’s ironic is Robert Kennedy was also assassinated and JFK jr died in a tragic airplane crash.
